When was the last time you inspected your first aid kit?  When you open that kit, and it doesn’t have what you need or expect, it’s not just disappointing, it can be dangerous!

Set periodic reminders on your calendar, at least quarterly, to check and replenish all the first aid kits in your business, and in your service vehicles.

Some common components in first aid kits that often need to be replenished are bandages, Acetaminophen (Tylenol), first aid tape, hand sanitizer, and vinyl gloves.

Keep in mind that any drugs in your first aid kit should be inspected for expiration dates and updated as needed.

There is no specific OSHA regulation for what needs to be included in a first aid kit at your office or in your vehicles, but they do require that “Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available.”  You need to evaluate specific types of injuries that are likely to happen on the job and equip your first aid kits accordingly.

Get it on the calendar and keep it up to date.  Attention to this detail can make a big difference when accidents happen.
